Who We Are

We are a non-profit community organisation, run by a group of voluntary committee members. Our Centre is located in the grounds of Glenavon School and offers 30 hours free education and care. We not only offer our services to families from Blockhouse Bay but to surrounding areas that include Avondale, New Windsor, New Lynn and Mt. Roskill.

A Brief History

Glenavon Early Childhood Centre was founded in 1992 as a playgroup, with a vision of being pivotal in preparing our young children for school. Our passion for teaching and vision to support our community led us to become a fully licensed Early Childhood Centre in 1996, operating mainly as sessions.

In response to increasing demand the Centre expanded its operating hours in 2010 to offer full day service to our families as well as 20 hours free ECE. In 2015 the Centre introduced flexible options to better suit the lifestyle and learning needs of our pupils and their families and are currently offering 30 hours free for all 3 to 5 year old children.
